Oakmont Slacker Run to benefit Child Advocacy Center of Gainesville

.4K slacker run to be held in Oakmont development on April 4, 2020
Posted: February 13, 2020 by Coleen DeGroff

The Oakmont neighborhood in southwest Gainesville is hosting its first-ever slacker run on Saturday, April 4th, 2020, from 11 AM to 2 PM. The .4K fundraiser run (that’s POINT 4K, not 4K) benefits the Child Advocacy Center of Gainesville, which specializes in therapy for abused children in the local community. The center provides a safe, child-friendly space for children and their families during child abuse investigations. The mission of the center is to break the cycle of child abuse in Alachua County. By participating in this fun Slacker Run on April 4th, you are helping to support that mission in a very real and tangible way.

Why a .4K run? Why not a 5K?

Because a 5K run is 3.1 miles and a .4K run is a tad less than 1/4 of a mile (.249 miles to be exact). Anyone can do it - and get a T-shirt too! * (You need to register for the Oakmont run before March 14th to get the free T-shirt)

In addition to the run, there are lots of fun activities planned for the day of the event. At time of publishing, current activities include:

  • Free Kona ice cream at the end for kid runners
  • 2 free beers per adult runner
  • Donuts in water tent
  • Live music
  • Yard games
  • Kid Zone including blow-up obstacle course, face painting, photo opportunities with Elsa or Spider-Man
  • Live broadcast on-site with KISS-FM
  • Food trucks
  • Local Vendors
  • Raffle for prizes
  • Medals
  • A sticker for your car so you can display it next to your marathon stickers - or not
  • Free t-shirt for runners that sign up before March 14th
  • Free parking

All proceeds from the day’s event will benefit the Child Advocacy Center. Gainesville's Oakmont neighborhood will be matching up to $2,000 in total monies raised.

How much does it cost to register for the Slacker Run?

The run is $20/person if you sign up by March 14th and the price increases to $25/person if you sign up after March 14th. Free T-shirts are only available to runners registering by the March 14th deadline.

What if I want to be a sponsor for the Oakmont Slacker Run?

There are several sponsorship levels but you must sign up by March 14th. There are limited sponsorships available at each level so depending upon when you sign up will determine if the levels are available.

The sponsorship levels include Dilly-Dadler ($5,000); Layabout ($2,500); Dawdler ($1,000); Laggard ($500); and Crawler ($100).

Current event sponsors (as of time of publication) are:
